The Best Time to Post on Social Media

It’s a beautiful thing, data.

There’s data that tells us when people are most likely to read content on each social network. You don’t have to wonder when the best time is to post something – you can use the information below to get it right.

Why Does It Matter When I Post Content?

People who actively check social media tend to make it part of their daily routine. They might check Twitter first thing in the morning over coffee, or scroll through Facebook at lunch or on the treadmill.

Your insurance agency can plan to share content when your target audience will be more likely to interact with it. Depending on which social media channel you’re using, the days and times when users are most active will vary.  We pulled data shared by a number of sources to come up with the general guidelines below. See what works for you.

Facebook: Thursday-Sunday

The best days to post Facebook content are Thursdays, Fridays and weekends. The ideal time of day to post is between 9 a.m.-7 p.m., with 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. typically having more interactions.

Twitter: Weekdays

The best days and times to tweet depend on the audience. If your agency is targeting business insurance clients, then consider posting Monday through Friday. Businesses are 14% more likely to engage on Twitter during week days than on weekends. If your goal is to interact directly with consumers, then weekends and Wednesdays are the ideal days to tweet.

The time to post also varies depending on what type of interaction you’re hoping to achieve. Tweeting at 5 p.m. is the best time for your content to be retweeted by your followers, but 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. have the highest engagement in the form of clicks or likes.

LinkedIn: 5-6 p.m.

Since LinkedIn is a more professional social networking site, it follows that the best time to post is weekdays during business hours. Tuesdays through Thursdays are typically the days with higher engagement, with your posts more likely to be viewed at noon or between 5-6 p.m.

Google Plus: Wednesdays at 9 a.m.

Sharing content on Google Plus during the week receives more engagement than on weekends. Try posting between 9-11 a.m. for the highest engagement, with Wednesdays at 9 a.m. one of the best times for interactions.

Instagram: Mondays at 5 p.m.

Instagram engagement is relatively consistent each day throughout the week, with slightly higher interactions around 5 p.m. on Mondays.

Pinterest: Saturday

The best day to pin on Pinterest is on Saturday, with the ideal time for engaging with your followers from 8-11 p.m. Sharing content during work hours has the lowest levels of engagement.
